Thanks to Dave for his comment which alerted me your article. I love duets so you've given me plenty to check out. thanks. (I'm retired and have the time.) Since I only switched to country full time around 1990, I'm not familiar with many of the old duets. I posted a list of duets about a year ago but I only included songs in which the duet partners contributed equally hence I didn't include Five O'Clock Somewhere, although I really like it, since AJ's contribution far outweighed JB's. For duet lovers out there, here are a few of my favorites not mentioned in Kevin's list or comments.

I'm Not Gonna Do Anything Without You - Jamie O'Neal & Mark Wills
Heart Half Empty - Stephanie Bentley & Ty Herndon
Feels Like Home - Martina Mcbride & Raul Malo
We Can't Unmake Love - Wynonna & John Berry
Maybe Not Tonight - Lorrie Morgan & Sammy Kershaw
If I Could Find The Heart to Love Again – Gina Jeffreys & Billy Dean
Baby It's Cold Outside - Suzy Bogguss & Delbert McClinton
Loving This Way - Bobbie Eakes & Collin Raye
Let Me Love Again - Lisa Brokop & Steve Holy
It's Your Love - Faith Hill & Tim McGraw
It Must Be You - Juice Newton & Michael Johnson
Keep Mom & Dad In Love - Lisa Brokop & Hal Ketchum
From There To Here - Randy Owen & Richie McDonald
I Finally Passed The Bar - Michael Peterson & Travis Tritt
How's The World Treating You - Alison Krauss & James Taylor
A Mother And Father's Prayer - Melissa Manchester & Collin Raye
We've Got Tonight - Sheena Easton & Kenny Rogers
Missing You - Alison Krauss & John Waite
Trip Around The Sun - Martina Mcbride & Jimmy Buffet
Breaking Apart - Trisha Yearwood & Chris Isaak
Rock Me On the Water - Kathy Mattea & Jackson Browne
Let Me Love Again - Lisa Brokop & Steve Holy
Two of the Lucky Ones - Bekka Bramlett & Michael Peterson
We've Got Tonight - Sheena Easton & Kenny Rogers
When It's Good - LeAnn Rimes & Marc Broussard
Love Again - Sylvie Vartan & John Denver
All Heaven Broke Loose - Lisa Brokop & Danny Leggett

I'd also like to mention the Dolly & Kenny Christmas album, Once Upon A Christmas, which included these great duets: A Christmas To Remember, Christmas Without You, I Believe In Santa Claus and With Bells On.

You know for some reason as to which I have yet to discover people just fall apart over the union of Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. I like both of them, Parton more so but Rogers just never did anything for me EXCEPT when he was paired up with Dottie West. That is what a duet is all about shinning light on your partner. I know that in the case of success and country radio West benefited from being Rogers duet partner, but in my books Kenny Rogers would have never gotten a second look if he hadnt paired with that sultry voiced Dottie West back in 1978 with "Everytime Two Fools Collide"

It's easy to think of Dolly's harmony part as a duet with Brad, since it's so strong, but I agree that it's not actually a duet. She never sings her own verse or anything. Dolly has a way of doing that though.

This is a great extensive list and it would be fun to revisit/revise it sometime.

It's been a long time since I wrote this (and I did it at the request of one of my very few readers back in those days), but I remember making sure I called it a "Fifty Favorite Duets" rather than "Fifty Best" because I didn't do any research beyond my own personal tastes.

I would definitely go back and add Johnny & June's "Long-Legged Guitar Pickin' Man." Brad and Dolly still wouldn't make the cut because it's not a full-fledged duet, though I love Parton's harmony vocal. I much prefer the song "When I Reach the Place I'm Going", which has been recorded by Wynonna and Patty Loveless, much like I prefer "Hey Bobby" over "Mud on the Tires" and "Wrapped" over "Wrapped Around."

Brad Paisley & Dolly Parton - When I Get Where I'm Going should surely be on the list?

I'm no expert but I love many of these songs
I mean LOVE'm
Streets of Bakersfield and Baby Don't Go - just gorgeous!!!
Love all the descriptive commentary of this list!

I'm trying to find the name of a band that did a slow and painfully beautiful song called "Sunset of my Tears" - I think it is UK Rockabilly/Country but I'm not sure.. anybody know it? the Harmony in it is thick and juicy - like the aforementioned tunes... Steak Harmonies.... LOL How can you not love'm?
