Little Big Town, “I’m With the Band”

This is mid-seventies country-rock done really, really well. If I didn’t already own the Almost Famous soundtrack, I’d swear this was on it. They’re letting their roots show, and it’s a flattering sound for them. Fact is, acts like The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt and Fleetwood Mac influenced the hell out of modern country music, and there hasn’t been a new champion of this sound for a good long while.

I’ve criticized this band in the past for not showcasing their harmonies enough, and this time, they sing the entire song together. It sounds pretty damn sweet.

Alas , I know. The Eagles and their ilk are the very embodiment of “faux country”. Country music won’t get into high gear again until John Anderson , Randy Travis and Dwight Yoakum are more influential than the Eagles, Marshall Tucker and Crosby Stills & Young

By the way Fleetwood Mac was quite popular when I lived in England, but they were a Blues Rock band led by Peter Green, not the insipid pop balladeers they later became.
