Loretta should have been number one. Dolly can be number two.

Also, have you ever heard of Charline Arthur? I think she should have been included over someone like Aunt Molly. That is all. Thanks for putting this together.

I would like to ask all Loretta Lynn fans to help me out with something. At country weekly.com there is a poll on the most beautiful women in country music Lets get Loretta on the list because she is a beautiful lady inside and out. Let get the Coal Miner’s Daughter on the list. Thanks

Oh I love Loretta. She is just simply awesome. She is one of these people who if you have ever seen her in concert she still can sing a note and she still sounds like loretta she is awesome! If you ever get a chance to listen to some of her older albums do so because she has a style of selecting songs that just fit the album. She is the #1 female singer to me she is the country female stylist of all time. I might add she has won more awards than any other female singer in country music and still holds several records. 1st female CMA and ACM Entertainer of the Year. First CMA FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR First headling female singer, First and so far only female to win ACM Artist of the Decade award she has been in more hall of fames than anyone (Country Music Hall of Fame, Songwriters Hall of Fame in Nashville and New York, Kentucky Music Hall of fame and she has gotten teh Kennedy Center Honor I’ve said enough she is #1

Again, another correction is needed. I love Loretta, she is indeed the Queen but she did NOT have the first studio album certified gold by a country female. That honor belongs to Bobbie Gentry when her #1 pop and #1 country album ‘Ode to Billie Joe’ was certified in 1967 and sold over 1 million units( there was no platinum award in 1960′s)/ Jeanie C. Rileys Harper Vally PTA album would go #1 country and #6 pop in 1968 and sell over 1 million units too.

Loretta Lynn is without question the undisputed “Queen Of Country Music” and I feel she should have ranked #1 on this list.
Many people do not know this but Loretta was the first woman in American music history to chart fifty top ten hits in any field of music. Only Dolly & Reba have since achieved this feat.
Loretta was the biggest selling country female artist in the 1960′s & 1970′s and the only woman to ever have three #1 album in one year. She also has more #1 albums to her credit than any other country female artist.
Additionally Loretta is the “Most Awaded Lady In Country Music History” with more major awards won than any other female artist. She has been inducted into more Hall Of Fames than any other female recording artist. The first & only woman to ever be named “Artist Of The Decade” for her powerful hold on the 1970′s.
The first living entertainer to have a major motion picture made of thier life with the film Coal Miner’s Daughter in 1980. In 1976 she became the first country entertainer to make the New York Times betseller list. The Only female country star to appear on the cover of international news magazine , Newsweek in 1973. The list goes on and on & on.
Without question the all-time #1 “Queen Of Country.”

Great list. I would have put Loretta first, but this list will continue to shuffle over the years and your top 2 will probably remain the same. Loretta broke the rules for what women could do in the music business. Dolly is great, but Loretta was first.

On this list, Patsy was too low, Emmylous just a bit too high, Trisha too high, Shania too low. I’m still in favor of CMT’s top 40.

Loretta was originally my #1 but I like the thought of Dolly #1 instead. She’s definitely spread the recognition a lot more.

I can’t really image what it was like for Loretta Lynn. A young mother and wife with little formal education; she was thrust into major stardom requiring her to deal with a great deal of stress. Through it all she not only maintained poise and grace but produced some fabulous music.

Like many here, I would have a hard time keeping Loretta out of the #1 sport, but I can see the argument for the person who Kevin has at #1.

excellent list, I am glad they really put quality into their countdown. Artist like Trisha Yearwood belong where they are and same goes for artists like Shania to be out of the top 10. I agree 100%

I would have put Loretta #1 and Dolly #2 but still good job.
