Discussion: Recommend a Track(list)

Since all of you love to play with your iPods (or maybe that’s just me and I’m projecting it), let’s do Recommend a Track a little differently this week.

Put your iPod on shuffle, and keep playing until you’ve found 10 tracks you’d proudly recommend to others, then put how many tracks it took to get there.  (While doing this, ask yourself the pertinent questions, “How does he come up with these ridiculous questions?” and “Why do I keep answering them?”)

My 10 (out of 38)
1. Todd Snider, “Conservative Christian…”
2. Electronic, “For You”
3. Neil Diamond, “Slow it Down”
4. Willie Nelson, “Yesterday’s Wine”
5. Kathy Mattea, “I Will”
6. Collin Raye, “A Bible and a Bus Ticket Home”

8. Vince Gill, “Give Me the Highway”
9. Johnny Cash, “The Man Who Couldn’t Cry”
10. Chris Thile, “Waltz for Dewayne Pomeroy”

  8. Matt B,

Matt Wertz was here in Nashville last week with Gavin Degraw. For that reason, I was not in attendance. But I was able to catch him last year at a local, low-key venue and really enjoyed his performance. I’ve been a fan for a few years now, but hadn’t seen him live until then.

Gabe Dixon Band is here at the Belcourt next Friday (my birthday, CU readers!), and now you’ve reminded me what I need to be doing that night. I know this is a country music website, but what the heck…

It took 32 times to get these 10 (most coming on the last track).

  11. Blake,

I’m a big fan of many of the pop/rock artists that are based here in Nashville. Wertz, Dave Barnes, Gabe Dixon Band, etc. People often forget the city is good for more than just country.

Speaking of local show dates: One Flew South will be at 3rd and Lindsey on Monday and Wednesday Randy Rogers Band, Wade Bowen and Seth James (?) are playing a industry showcase (for free) at The Rutledge.

  12. Wed – 10 Randy Rogers / Wade Bowen / Seth James
    8:30 PM – Doors Open @ 7 PM
    No Cover
    18+

From the website. I only saw that it was an industry ‘showcase’ on Wade or Randy’s myspace. But anyone can go. If it is an industry show, chances are there will be free swag, otherwise it’s a free show to see at least two well-regarded acts (I never listened to Seth James before so I’d assume he’d be opening the show).

  17. Thanks for the info, Matt B. What a week for music in Music City. Trisha Yearwood’s at the Ryman on Wednesday night as well, and Patty Loveless will be live on WSM radio from the Country Music Hall of Fame on Monday. Plus, the Next Big Nashville festival, with a number of pop, rock and country artists is the 10th and 14th. I could name a rising artists that I would love to see. So much to do, so little time. I sound like a walking advertisement for Nashville.

  18. 01. Keep Your Feet On THe Ground – Rhonda Vincent (#3)
    02. Robert Plant & Alison Krauss – Fortune Teller (#5)
    03. It Ain’t Me – Shooter Jennings (#7)

    10. Best Of All Possible Worlds – The Little Willies (#21)

So it took me 21 tracks to find 10 I’d reccomend. A lot of the one’s I skipped though were one’s that I’m not even sure why they’re on my ipod.

  19. Blake, I’ve seen advertisments for “NBN.” Don’t forget that there’s the Capitol Pub Craw1 2 coming up as well. I’m going specifically because Emily West is playing it and it will allow me the time to speak with her again. Other Capitol aritsts are playing: Trace Adkins and Darius Rucker will sing on a stage in the street and Luke will join Emily at pubs. Sounds like damn fun to me.

  20. haha! Sorry to have hijacked the forum with the Nashville centric show listings. Honestly, I am still excited to be around much of the music I like. In Seattle there are a lot of live shows but it’s usually bands that are more alternative rock leaning (obvious statement of the year, eh?) so I’m just excited.
