WOW Kevin, this is no small task and you really did it. The 25 best Dolly Parton songs. Only 25??? I think of songs like:

Dolly remains such a dominant force in country music and she means so much to not just americans but to people all over the world. Her voice is angelic and her song writing is untouchable. I have loved dolly since I was a Kid performer on the island of Jamaica and since living and performing in the U.S, my show is never complete without doing a dolly song. Long may she live as we have all learned many lessons from the songs she gives us. I just lost my mother and her favorite cd was the “trio” cd and dolly was her favorite….I now take comfort in “let her fly”
God bless Dolly Parton—–Tennessee should come up with its own Musical Mt. Rushmore—–I bet Dolly would be its most prominent feature in every sense of imagination.

There is Only One Star on the Planet that I would fly to the other side of the world to see and that is the Unprecedented Miss Dolly Parton…
I own all her albums and I’ve been a fan 26 years – Brilliant List!
Dolly is a Unique Musical Genius and Prolific Song Writer the likes of which we will never see again –
God was showing off when he made Dolly!!

I read both lists. I’m thinking about making one of my own, but i fear it will be too difficult. I’m an uber fan of Dolly’s (over 70 albums owned), so I enjoy reading things like this. I thought you bouth had good lists and good points. Lets be honest she has so much super quality work. I do find yours a bit more on track with my tastes though. A few little less known jems were included on yours. kudos to you and to all the not so informed folks out there… go buy some Dolly records!!

I love your list! Most of my favorites are on your list as well, but like most die hard fans, I love so many songs that picking 25 is pretty near impossible b/c I would always feel like I’m leaving one out! One of my most favorites not mentioned though is Paradise Road from the Hungry Again album. Love it! Welcome Home floors me as well, I was crying just reading your commentary about it! I sob when I hear the song it is so powerful!

Wow, great stuff Kevin…Your commentary for your favorite Dolly Parton songs can also be read as an effective case as to why you placed her at #1 on your greatest Country women list!

I think my favorite from Dolly is “The Grass Is Blue” actually the whole album, hard for me to single out a single cut.

Dolly does such amazing Mountain-y things with her voice…LOVE her Bluegrass!

I have nothing but respect for the amazing Miss Dolly, who is also such an inspiration and means so much to my favortite artist, Patty Loveless!
