I don't have the Moorer album, but I have been thoroughly enjoying the Lynne and Loveless records for the past couple weeks.

Excellent read too, Blake.

Cool article, but boo for no Glen Campbell shout-out! That's alright, though; I'll be posting some love for that album later (under this post, of course, since my day has past).

In a way, Patty's been foreshadowing Sleepless Nights for many years now, and in many ways, her latest masterpiece was inevitable....Her exquisite versions of Hank Williams "I Can't Get You Off of My Mind", George Jones' "If My Heart Had Windows" And the Stanley Brother's "I'll Never Grow Tired of You" come to mind. Patty's incredible interpretive skills as demonstrated in these songs and elsewhere have served her very well through the years, and have made her the perfect artist for just this kind of endeavor.

When I first heard Martina McBride's Timeless album, I thought to myself "this is really good, but I think this is the kind of thing Patty Loveless could knock out of the park" And had hoped for an album of Traditional covers from Patty for a few years now. My hopes were more than realized...Patty Loveless' Sleepless Nights is apotheosis.

I didn't realize Allison Moorer and Shelby Lynne are sisters. I'll have to give them a listen as well.

Even though releasing albums that contain only cover songs is an extremely risky move, both artistically and commercially, I have to admire these ladies for taking that risk when they really don't have anything to lose. Their albums will find receptive audiences; they just may not be country audiences, as perceived by what the CMT corporate mantra is.

Oddly enough, Kathy Mattea's Coal is really a covers album too, it just doesn't feel like one.

I only have the Loveless album, I'll have to check out the other two.
