I suspect Johnson will still win and his is my favorite performance of the bunch, but I like Strait’s alright, too, and do think he could possibly play spoiler. Actually, I wouldn’t be terribly shocked to see anyone besides Otto take it home.

who will win :Jamey Sohnson
Who I’D LIKE to win: Trace Adkins. Both Trace and jame have timeless songs here, but if i had to vote for just one, it would be Trace.

This award likely comes down to Johnson v. Strait, with the other three nominees functioning primarily as vote siphoners rather than as legitimate spoilers. Johnson has the street-cred, and the fact that he scored not just one but three somewhat surprising nominations this year does suggest that he’s sufficiently on the voters’ radar that he could pull off the win. Strait, moreso than the strength of his song or performance, seems to be riding on the “He’s never won a Grammy!” angle that’s been a common go-to point in the media since the nominations were announced. While I would argue that “Troubadour” is the best thing he’s been nominated for in this category, that doesn’t say much at all, and I just have a hard time imagining a huge groundswell of support for that particular song. That the people who like Johnson seem to really like Johnson and “In Color,” especially, makes me think that he’ll eke out this win.

But I also have a nagging feeling that Strait’s “overdue veteran” status could gain enough traction that he could turn the Grammys into the CMA and ACM awards from the past couple of years and run the table on the Country field.

Any award that doesn’t recognize Waylon Jennings was the best thing going in the 70′s was doing something wrong. Hope Jamey gets the win and brings back some of that Waylon spirit.

I’ve never quite grasped the Chesney/Brooks comparison myself. To me, they’re nothing alike at all.

I know that country music fans love Kenny Chesney…why, I don’t know or understand, but anyway they do. But I was watching the “We Are One” concert yesteday and when Garth Brooks came on and performed the audience went wild and he had them all dancing and singing like crazy….he was awesome to me! Now KC has tied with him for EOTY trophies! Now, my question is, do you really think Kenny Chesney could have done that in Washington??? My answer is “No Way”! He does not have the world wide charisma that Garth does! I’ve read articles everywhere wondering why Chesney has never been nominated for a Grammy, but I totally understand….he, to me, is not that great of an entertainer. Grant it he may feel stadiums full of his adoring fans, but even on award shows, he is never the best entertainer. Now he’s nominated for the most ridiculous song! I just don’t get it! JMO!

Yeah, I’m with Jamey Johnson winning this category as well. I really like his soulful twang, and In Color is a great song.

As for the past winners and nominees, NOW I see where VInce Gill racked up all those Grammy wins…what an amazing, well-deserved run!

A song named “Annabelle” was nominated in ’04?! How did I miss this, I have a cat named Annabelle! I love the fact that her name is also a country song, lol.

So cool to see Jerry Reed win one and nominated for another in this category. WYHYH and Amos Moses were crossover hits, and I actually remember enjoying them when they first came out on AM pop/rock radio! I had no idea they were contenders at the time.

Toby Keith said the Grammy’s put too little emphasis on commercial success? I like how the Grammy’s don’t shower Kenny Chesney, Taylor Swift, or other annoying artists with awards. True artists deserve the awards, or at least really good songs, not bad ones.

Anyway, I want “In Color” to win, though I like all the songs that were nominated. So far, the poll agrees with me!

How could Jamey Johnson NOT win a category called Best Male Country Vocal Performance with “In Color”? I don’t think he should take the album category but this was about the best single on the radio all year. For the guys anyhoo. If Brad had “Waitin’ on a Woman” I’d have to call a tie.

Do you have any idea just how old you just made me feel? Heh! To this day I cannot believe “Make the World Go Away” lost to “King of the Road”. Seriously! My Papa was happy though. He sang that song ad nauseum and he couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket. There were a couple of Waylon songs over the years I thought would win but didn’t too. I also didn’t hate the Vince death grip on the Grammys during his run.
