I guess if my prediction came true then UMG would have 4 of the 5 artists (they distribute/promote Taylor Swift to retail).

Hopefully this means that Joey + Rory's album will be in consideration now, same goes for Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson. While that'd be great, I get the sense that all this means is that albums by Jamey Johnson and Heidi Newfield will now be in the list and we'll then see Strait, Sugarland, and Taylor Swift as the other 3.

Heading in the right direction. At least, that levels the playing field a lil more.

Hopefully with less emphasis on sales, we'll start to see some more interesting and more deserving nominees in the album category. I disagree, though, that the fact that only nine albums surived the 300,000 units sold requirement means that country isn't doing business. Just a year or two ago, artists were worried about losing their record deals if they couldn't reach platinum level sales within a year of an album's release. 300,000 was considered successful back in the 80s.

Is it just me, or do record execs think way too much about ringtones as a sustainable source of income? To me that whole thing just screams "fad."

Anyways, this is definitely good news.
