Country Quizzin’ – March ‘09, Week 1
March 3, 2009
UPDATED
Thanks for playing, everyone! Here are this week’s top three scores:
19/20 -- Jordan Stacey
18/20 -- Andrew, Gavin
17.5/20 -- J.R. Journey
With many of you trailing very close behind, as always. A few notes about how I scored this week: if your answer made sense with how I asked the question and didn’t provide any incorrect information, I gave you the points. This applies mostly to people like Jesseca White, who provided all of the winners from the 2008 Grammy ceremony because that’s what I had accidentally written here first.
Also, grading these is boring, so it always pays to make me laugh if you don’t know an answer. I think I gave Mike K the full point for his Neko Case response even though he obviously didn’t know the answer.
Anyways, well done everybody. See you next week!

How about that massive formatting change in the title? I’ll give you a second to digest it.
…
‘K. This week, you’re going to be testing your knowledge of recent events in country music. As usual, you have until 10 pm EST tomorrow (Wednesday) to answer, and the answers and scores will be revealed at 10:30.
A reminder that each new month means a new opportunity to win a $20 Amazon gift certificate if you’re the month’s highest scorer, so it’s vital that you play each week!
Oh, and the temptation to cheat and avoid embarrassment will be strong for some of these, so this week’s warning not to do so comes from the even-stronger Johnny Cash:
Let’s proceed.
1. This artist recently swept the annual Nashville Scene critics’ poll, including the “Album,” “Artist,” and “Songwriter” categories. -- Jamey Johnson
2. This artist appeared on a recent episode of The Colbert Report. When Colbert asked whether the artist was liberal, the artist replied, “maybe left of that.” -- Kris Kristofferson
3. Emmylou Harris is among the artists who has lobbied for this important piece of legislation which would require radio stations to pay performance royalties to artists and musicians when their records are played. -- Performance Rights Act

5. The Country Music Hall of Fame recently named this artist its “Artist in Residence.” - Vince Gill

10. Name the three people to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame this year. (Don’t cheat don’t cheat don’t cheat.) -- Barbara Mandrell, Roy Clark, Charlie McCoy

There were quite whole lot of things you could have said here. I’m too lazy to list them out.

stupid virus on my computer kept me from participating in this week’s quiz! Grrr! This was so my kind of quiz too!
New Quiz Idea: What about a quiz on some of country’s famous three act story songs. You know the type. In the first verse a couple of teenagers are falling in love, in the second they’re stressed about bills and babies and in the final verse they’re in rocking chairs and dying.
Yay I won and not to nitpick but I believe mentioning Buddy Miller was a bonus point so I should have 20/20 (just kidding). Now watch me completly botch next weeks quiz.
