Really wonderful interview. To echo some of your sentiments, most of the time I read these interviews online it seems as if the artists and/or interviewer are just going through the motions. This interview was the absolute opposite of that. You asked great questions that fans want to hear the answers to and Kathy responded with really detailed, vibrant answers that were enjoyable to read. Great work.

Very nice interview, Kevin. I can really relate to what she says about people pining for the “mini-golden age” of country music in the ’90s. I enjoyed the whole interview a lot. Well done!

Seriously, what a great interview. Your perspective as a big fan gives the whole thing a personal twist that I really like. So, what everyone else has said.

And I gotta say, nice plug for Rhapsody at the end there! I’m sure they appreciate it since they advertise here, haha. Seriously, to anyone who’s curious about it, I agree with Kathy: it really is a fantastic service if you can afford the subscription costs.

I don’t do anywhere near the amount of interviews that I could do because with most artists, I don’t feel I have anything to ask that hasn’t already been answered a million times. With Mattea, that wasn’t the case.

I’m happy that you can tell I’m a fan by reading it, because I am one. There aren’t very many artists who I can say have changed my life (or at least my perspective on life), but she has.

An incredible interview!!

I’m excited about her next album too. I’m glad it’ll be some sort of roots record.

I love this quote from her. I think more artists could stand to heed this philosophy:

“I’ve had to strip some of my ego away in order to get into these songs because you don’t perform these songs. You just tell the stories.”

Kevin, I think you’ve nailed it when you said that her music is heavy without being weighed down. That’s perfect.

I also love how she makes singing “Eighteen Wheels” every night fresh and meaningful to her. It’s cool that she was able to find a way to make it one of her favorite moments of her shows by reflecting on the people who’ve loved that song for so many years.

I’m always interested in what my favorite artists are listening to and she seems to have great taste, which is obviously reflected in her music.

Really, there’s just so much more to comment on. You were so lucky to be able to have this kind of conversation with her. I’m betting it’s all that you hoped it would be.
