  1. Hmm. Nothing for the Indigo Girls’ “Soft and Gentle (The Chevy Pickup Song)”.

  2. There aren’t any real surprises here, but having just 4 nominees per category tends to limit the opportunities to sneak in something unexpected– say, Fred Eaglesmith’s Tinderbox. Still, when the work recognized is this solid, it’s hard to complain.

    Nice to see Jason Isbell’s fantastic record get some recognition; it’s easily among my favorites of 2009 thus far. The Alejandro Escovedo album has a harder rock edge than most typical “Americana,” but it has some of his sharpest writing in ages.
