Just found out tonight that Gary Harrison was from Yorkville,Tn. I have lived in Yorkville for a few years and never knew this! Too Cool!

Good article. Imagine how long this would be if every song was mentioned. Harrison is clearly a talented and proliffic songwriter, even though his name doesn’t seem to come up as much as other songwriters.

Also, “The Dreaming Fields” is a Harrison/Berg/Jonathan Yukdin collaboration and I LOVE the song “Wrong Side of Memphis” and “Everybody Knows” by T.Y. as well.

Gary Harrison co-wrote Four tracks on George Canyon’s 2009 album release in Canada “What I Do.” The songs are “Just Like You,” “Pretty Drunk Out Tonight,” “Fool In Me” (Co-writes with Richard Marx/George Canyon) and “Last Man” a co-write with just Canyon.

The song “Let Alone You” was written with Carson Chamberlain and is on both Blaine Larsen and Easton Corbin’s albums.

Sam, you’re right. Thanks. The song listing on the back of my 4 page cd insert is incorrect. I checked the BMI website and it shows:

Sam, Thanks for the info on the Reba song. I have Pam T’s Rhinestoned and the only writer shown for “Crazy By Myself” is Matraca Berg.

A quick search of my iTunes adds two more. Reba McEntire’s Straight from You is Harrison/Mensy, and is on her 1992 album, It’s Your Call. And Pam Tillis figures again, on another collaboration with Berg, on Crazy By Myself, from Rhinestoned, her latest album.

It’s a shame how many songwriters don’t get their dues or the recognition they deserve.

I’ve viewed many award shows, and the only medium that truly thanks their writers (or even gives them a lot of recognition) is television [and Broadway, and sometimes film]. Especially in the actors & actresses’ speeches, they are genuinely appriciative of the writers’ hard work.

You don’t see it that much in other mediums. However, I guess you could say that musicians work with many different writers, while TV stars work with a team of writers that is generally the same people every week. [and Broadway stars work with one to a few writers on each play, simliar to films]

Great write-up, Bob. Interesting to learn all of the songs he’s co-written/written.
