Yeah, having listened to it over at NPR, I’m more positive than I was initially after hearing the singles. Still prefer her first album though.

You can listen to the whole album several places online. NPR for one. I like some of the slower songs on the album better than the ones on the EP, and even those are growing on me. I think the album will do fine. She’s only a couple of years older than Taylor Swift. Still one of my favorite artists.

I’m worried for this album. It’s like they’ve run her through a Generic filter.

It’s songs like this with this loud “I AM COUNTRY!” ring to them that make me consistently dubious of the country genre, and it shouldn’t have to be this way.

Yep, ‘fraid so. I wanted to like what Ashton Shepherd releases, and I do enjoy the breezy mandolin-laced sound of this record, but there’s just not enough lyrical substance to keep me interested.

The one base she doesn’t touch here is drinking. I guess she saved that for “Beer on a Boat”?

I don’t necessarily mind this song, but I really wished she released “Beer on a Boat” instead, given this is summer and all. And it’s a much better song than this one.
