Shania had so many good songs. “Honey I’m Home” is a lot of fun, even if it is “Any Man of Mine, Part II.” Sometimes sequels are just as good as the original. Though in fairness, its not quite the same song. In “Any Man of Mine,” Shania is a bad cook who burns dinner while in “Honey I’m Home” Shania’s honey gets her dinner and her favorite treat. Either way, both songs are still fun over 15 years later.

I think its a bit unfair to compare ‘Honey I’m Home’ to ‘Any Man of Mine’. HIH should stand on its own for what it is. It is a great satire on gender roles that AMOM does not touch on. Hearing a woman demand a beer from her man after coming home from work is striking.

If I had to choose between this and “Any Man of Mine,” I think I would still go with “Any Man of Mine,” but I do think this is a hugely entertaining record. I think the arrangement sounds very cool – how it kind of rocks and twangs at the same time. I would probably give it a B+ or A-, depending on the day.

Even though this hasn’t gone down as her most remembered song, it works well even today to switch the typical gender role.
