Lackluster set of nominations across the board – very little real country music other than ZBB although there is good music to be found in the various albums.

I like much of The Band Perry’s album and I purchased the recent Grace Potter & The Nocturals album.

Insofar as I have a stong opinion on any of the categories, I’d like to see “Old Alabama” win the Vocal Event category. I like the Chesney/Potter collaboration, but it is not country music

I think Easton was nominated last year? I can’t remember.

The duet appears to be odd, but who knows – it could surprise us. To be honest, “Banjo” has really grown on me.

In recent years, it seemed Strait efforts such as the Twang and Troubadour projects were generally recognized at the awards circuit, so it's a bit surprising that Here for a Good Time gets passed over. Fix that, CMAs?

^ Ditto Ben and Keith’s above comments. Sad to not see Strait anywhere, particularly since “Here for a Good Time” was one of my favourite albums from last year and definitely one of the better mainstream releases.

I’d say because these awards have strayed from their original purpose of rewarding excellence in music-making and morphed into a venue for promoting flavor-of-the-moment lackluster talent like Jason Aldean and Lady Antebellum. It’s sad, but true.
