One of the best things about Nashville is the sheer number of talented musicians in one small location.

That’s also one of the worst things. With so much good music out there — to say nothing of the bad music with really good promotion — it’s easy to overlook the full-length debut from Texas transplants The Roosevelts. The duo is more on the Southern rock/pop side of the country music spectrum, but the songs are catchy enough that any roots music fan can appreciate it.

“This Is Life” is a toe-tapper driven by James Mason’s energetic vocals and Jason Kloess’ mandolin. The closer, “You’re Not Alone,” is a fine anthem for finding one’s inner strength. The Roosevelts have been building a reputation with their strong live shows and their beards, which are among the best in the music industry this side of ZZ Top.

The Greatest Thing does a nice job of showcasing the talent behind the whiskers.
