Terri Clark’s Podcast is Pretty Much the Greatest Thing Ever

Terri Clark launched a podcast earlier this year of unedited interviews recorded for her Country Gold radio show.

It’s pretty much the greatest thing ever, especially for fans of nineties country music. The mutual respect, depth of musical knowledge, and fresh anecdotes make each interview a gem, even if it’s of an artist that you’re not particularly a fan of.

By the time I got to the fourth podcast, I was ready to rebrand Country Universe as a nineties retro country site. (Not doing that. Yet.) But I will be hoping that the Chicks With Hits Tour, which teams Clark with two of her pictured podcast guests – Pam Tillis and Suzy Bogguss – finds its way to my area.

Here are links to some of the best shows so far, with my favorite anecdote highlighted after each one:

Pam Tillis

Best Anecdote: Arista Records threatening retaliation to the publisher of “All the Good Ones are Gone” if they didn’t honor Pam Tillis’ hold on the song.

Suzy Bogguss

Best Anecdote: Suzy Bogguss demanding a meeting with Alabama’s Randy Owen to get more time as an opening act, and his priceless response.

Wade Hayes

Best Anecdote: Wade Hayes and Terri Clark reminiscing about their days as songwriters for Sony Tree, and what Nashville was like as a city back then.

Reba McEntire

Best Anecdote: Ronnie Dunn as Reba McEntire’s personal interior decorator.

Gretchen Wilson

Best Anecdote: How the music video for Faith Hill’s “Breathe” made Gretchen Wilson burst into tears, and led to her writing “Redneck Woman.”

Ty Herndon

Best Anecdote: Ty Herndon and Anita Cochran making complete spectacles of themselves at a Patty Loveless concert.

Deana Carter

Best Anecdote: The first time Deana Carter heard Randy Travis sing…in her own house as a teenager.

Bryan White

Best Anecdote: How Shania Twain and Mutt Lange used the emergency phone on Bryan White’s bus to lock him down has her “From This Moment On” duet partner.

Craig Morgan

Best Anecdote: Listening to John Conlee, singing with John Conlee, hanging with John Conlee, mimicking John Conlee…

Lorrie Morgan

Best Anecdote: Lorrie Morgan’s dad, George Morgan, working a date in Canada with Terri Clark’s parents, years before both offspring were musicians in their own right.

  1. I just listened to the Pam Tillis podcast. Good stuff. I’ll probably stretch it out by listening to one every few days. If I could only listen to the country music of one decade, it would surely be the 90’s. Saw Terri Clark at the Nashville City Winery this past December. She still sounds great.

  2. I love Wade Hayes and I love this podcast. Thank you for introducing it to me. Terri Clark is a very real, down to earth person, and so are her interviews. God I miss the nineties!
