Win an Autographed Copy of Trace Adkins’ Cowboy’s Back in Town

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent Marty Stuart giveaway. It’s heartening that such a strong response was received for an artist who is no longer in the mainstream. I hope our five winners will enjoy Stuart’s fine new album.

Now, we are pleased to announce that courtesy of Show Dog-Universal, Country Universe is giving away two (2) autographed copies of Trace Adkins’ brand new album, Cowboy’s Back in Town, which was released last Tuesday, August 17.

As his first record on the Toby Keith owned record company, one can’t help but be curious to hear what the transition will mean for Adkins. With a big helping of raucous tunes and a handful of softer melodies, Adkins begins the new chapter in his career with a bang.

To enter the random drawing for one of the copies of Adkins autographed albums, leave a comment that tells us your favorite Trace Adkins song(s). The contest will be closed Thursday August 26 at midnight.

Win Rosanne Cash’s The List on CD and Vinyl

Monday, October 5th, 2009

The ListUpdate: Congratulations to our randomly selected (Random.org) winner, Sean. His favorite Rosanne Cash songs are “Seven Year Ache” and “September When It Comes.” Sean, you will be emailed soon for your contact information. Thank you to all who entered this contest.

While we are now clearly in the age of digital downloads and compact discs, not much compares to the warm sound that emanates from vinyl records. For those who still like to collect records, it’s certainly harder to add current albums to the collection, since vinyl even precedes the all but extinct cassette tape. Still, there is a nostalgia that records provide which cassettes just do not fill. So, it’s always fun when artists release an album, now and then, on vinyl in addition to CD and digital forms.

As Rosanne Cash visits some of the songs from a list of 100 essential songs that her father gathered for her, she is celebrating the project by making some copies of her album, The List, available on vinyl.

Country Universe readers have a chance to win a package that will contain two copies of her upcoming release, which will be released tomorrow (October 6), one on CD and the other on vinyl.

All you have to do is leave a comment telling us your favorite Rosanne Cash song and/or the song that you are most looking forward to hearing from this project.

You have until Monday October 12, 9:00 EST., to enter this contest, at which time 1 lucky winner will be randomly selected to win this cool prize.

Track List:
1. “Miss The Mississippi And You”
2. “Motherless Children”
3. “Sea Of Heartbreak” (Feat. Bruce Springsteen)
4. “Take These Chains From My Heart”
5. “I’m Movin’ On”
6. “Heartaches By The Number” (Feat. Elvis Costello)

Win an Autographed Copy of Charlie Robison’s Beautiful Day

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

CharlieAs a recent convert to Charlie Robison’s music, I am pleased to announce that Country Universe is giving away an autographed copy of his new album, Beautiful Day, thanks to the generosity of dualtoneRecords.

Despite the album’s seemingly positive title, Beautiful Day is mostly the exploration of the emotional upheaval that resulted in the aftermath of his high profile divorce from Dixie Chick, Emily Robison. In this superb album, you will detect a variety of emotions including sadness, resignation, tentative hopefulness and other feelings that naturally occur upon ending a union that was meant to last forever.

As usual, any comment will count as an entry for the random drawing. However, if you’re looking for direction, here’s what I’ve got:

If you could have anyliving country artist hang out with you in your very own living room, who would you choose?

Random question, you say? Well, there’s a method to my madness. As reported by Country California, Charlie is currently running a contest that involves a private house concert and Twitter. If you are one of his Twitter friends, you could have a chance to win a private house concert and invite up to 25 friends to join you. All you have to do is follow these simple instructions:

STEP 1: Go to
twitter.com/charlierobison
and follow Charlie

STEP 2: Re-tweet the below message to be entered into the contest (must include #crcontest)
“#crcontest Charlie Robison’s new record out now, RT to win a Living Room Concert. http://bit.ly/4aMvY”

STEP 3: Keep tabs on Charlie’s tweets for the announcement of the winner! Winner will be announced on September 1, 2009.

After entering our giveaway, if you’re so inclined, head on over to your Twitter account and enter Charlie’s contest too.  Ours will have better odds, but why not try your luck, anyway?

While you have until September 1 to enter Charlie’s Twitter contest, ours will end on Sunday July 12 at 9:00 Eastern.

Good luck.

Tanya Tucker Testimonials: Win A Copy of Tanya Tucker’s New Album

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Tanya_Tucker

Update: Michael, Dee, T Partridge, Paul Dennis, Chris, and Annie are the randomly selected winners of this give away.  Congratulations.  I will be contacting each of you for your addresses.  Thank you all for your participation.  Check in later this week for another give away. If you haven’t already, be sure to comb through the Tanya Tucker spotlight at My Kind of Country (linked below).

Thanks to the good people at Gigante Media, Country Universe is pleased to announce that we’re giving away five copies of the anticipated Tanya Tucker album, My Turn, which will be officially released on June 30.

My Turn is an album of covers sung by one of country music’s finest vocal interpreters, which will surely be a wonderful tribute to songs of country music’s past.

To get an idea of what to expect, you can listen to some tracks from the upcoming album here. You can also visit our friends at My Kind of Country to read their excellent and thorough coverage of Tanya Tucker who happens to be their spotlight artist for the month and, incidentally, are giving away copies of the album as well.

Any comment regarding Tanya Tucker will enter you into the random drawing, but if you’re looking for some direction, you can either tell us how a certain song of Tanya’s personally effects you in the form of a Tanya Tucker Testimonial or come up with a cool sentence or phrase about Tanya that involves clever alliteration.

You have until Friday, June 26 to enter the drawing, which will close at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, which should increase the chances of getting the album to you by release day.

YouTube Great Discoveries Contest

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

To our readers, I present a challenge.

To the winner, a $10 Amazon Gift Card.

YouTube is home to countless country music clips, including some very rare live performances.  Your challenge is to find the most surprising and unexpected live performance by a country artist.

24 hours from now, I’ll post a poll on the front page and allow readers to vote for the clip that they deem the greatest discovery. The commenter who posts the winning clip will receive the gift card!

Here’s all you need to do:

1. Find the clip on YouTube and copy its url into the comment box.

2. Add a “v” after the http, so the beginning of the link now reads  httpv://

3. Write a brief description of the find and why you think it’s a great discovery.

I’ll give an example to get things going.

Long before she became a bona fide superstar, Shania Twain had to settle for any exposure she could get. One avenue open to her was singing covers on the TNN show Music City Tonight.

In this clip, she performs Neil Young’s “Love is a Rose” in the style of Linda Ronstadt. She sounds pretty good, but she’s clearly still a television newbie. Check out her flub toward the end, where she begins singing the final verse before the instrumental interlude is over, and has to cut herself off mid-line:
