About a year ago, I made a YouTube discovery while I was in the process of searching for something completely different. (Isn’t that how it always works?) I came across a video of The Ginn Sisters out of Austin, Texas performing their song “Fireworks” at a local rally. I was instantly caught by the song and the warm vocals of the lead singer. The Ginn Sisters, formed by Tiffani and Brit Ginn (and recently joined by their mother Kari Ginn), play a mix of Americana, Alt-country, bluegrass and folk. Tiffani sings lead, plays guitar and writes the songs, while Brit sings harmonies and plays melodica and flute. I haven’t seen them perform live, but they are purportedly engaging in person, showcasing the skills that made their two albums, Generally Happy (2002) and Blood Oranges (2006), critical successes.
