Review: Suzy Bogguss, “In Heaven”

Her voice is still as pure and clear as a mountain stream, and she instinctively knows the great truth about singing that too many women these days never learned: it’s not about power, it’s about sincerity.

As Bogguss asks her deceased husband for his blessing on the new love she has found, all of the shades of emotion are there in her multi-layered performance: fear, apprehension, guilt, joy, sorrow.    You can feel the conflict inside of her character as she sings every line.

It’s a beautiful song sung beautifully.  What more can we ask for?

Grade: A

  1. It’s good to have new material available from Ms Bogguss. While she was never a superstar, she is up there with Patty Lovelace and Trisha Yearwood as the best female singers of her generation, and a better pure singer than any of the new wave of female artists.

    We can ask for more

  2. Ahh it’s so nice to hear Susy’s voice again. I have always loved her music and it was quite a shock when Capitol dropped her way back when, then she seemed to dissappear. I know it probably won’t happen but I Hope she gets back on the radio with this song.
