Tim McGraw, “It’s a Business Doing Pleasure With You”

Tim McGrawTim McGraw sounds fresh and rejuvenated on “It’s a Business Doing Pleasure With You”, an energetic and quite cleverly written song about a man who is going into debt trying to underwrite his woman’s material desires.

“You’ve got more purses than Versace, more rings than Liberace”, McGraw wails, with tongue firmly planted in cheek.  McGraw’s always been a great example of how you don’t need to be a powerful vocalist with a multi-octave range to effectively deliver a great performance. He mixes up a perfect balance of frustrated annoyance and helpless infatuation, all while keeping pace with a complicated lyric that features far more brand names than it does common nouns and verbs.

As the lead single from Southern Voice, his upcoming swan song for Curb Records, “Pleasure” demonstrates just how far he’s come as a singer. Lord knows he’d never have been able to pull this one off back in his “Indian Outlaw” days, but the fact that he’s preserved his enthusiasm from those first years is good to hear.

  1. It’s interesting that his next album could be his last for Curb. I’m curious to see how successful he would be on his own label which has only made minor cash from Halfway to Hazard. Only time will tell, but I think it would be a great move considering the hectic run he’s had with his landmark label.

  2. I like this song alright.

As for Tim on a new label, I think he’ll follow the path already traveled by the likes of Toby Keith, Clint Black, Garth Brooks, and Reba by recording for his own label and using one of the major indies for distribution and all those things you need a major label for. And I think Tim McGraw still has at least 5 more hit-making years in him.

  3. Although I do love this song its my hope that the new cd includes “Southern Boys”. He played that last summer in concert and its a great song!

  4. Gosh- Love this song!! I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album. Thank you Tim. You always give your fans the best, and love you for it.

  7. Tim and Faith have an amazing opportunity to capitalize on their great list of recorded songs to use them as the basis for a movie featuring a story line strung together by their songs. The movie would be “I Need You”. The lead would be best played by the Lost actor Holloway – he would be the Hank Williams character of the song. The movie would start out with him leaving Rehab to go see his mother who is very ill. Cameron Diaz would be his wife who has left him because of his addictions. The movie would be told in flashbacks like of him starting out in Oklahoma in Down on the Farm bonfire scene.

Tim and Faith would then do a concert tour with all of their songs being sung to videos from the movie.
