Retro Single Review: Tim McGraw, “Refried Dreams”

1995 | Peak: #5

By all laws of logic and reason, I should hate this song. But I don’t.

I like that the lyrics move by quickly enough that you can enjoy the rhyme without having to linger over their inanity.   McGraw’s vocal is a bit goofy, but not to the point that you doubt he’s actually a bit heartbroken.

And hey, the song’s central concept actually works, helping it rise above an otherwise corny title.

  1. When I was a much younger and my dad had this CD, all I wanted to listen to was Indian Outlaw and Refried Dreams (which happened to be back to back songs on that CD). Clearly I had fantastic taste in music as a 5 year old….

  2. …simple, a little silly with a most car radio friendly melody and topped with extra large twang – at least i still can’t say no to that combo. what a sophomore album that was.

  3. man….seems like Tim’s entire single collection were B songs from these reviews…. :-\

I admit, I did not hear about Time until after I was already a fan of Faith (circa 1998) so I have not heard half of these songs, including this one.

  4. This was a good song and it deserved to be a hit but early Tim McGraw stuff — this and Indian Outlaw – seems so dated now, production wise. Its a good song but its like a time capsule.

  5. …come to think of it, does anybody know by chance, when tim mcgraw’s next “greatest hits” collection will be released?
