  1. Dierks has consistently been putting out good music so it’s hard to pick a fave.

“Home”, “Draw Me A Map”, “Bourbon In Kentucky”, and “Come A Little Closer” are all up there as favorites.

  2. “Riser” is a damn solid record. In fact, it’s his second finest album in my opinion, only behind “Up On The Ridge”.

It’s imperfect, yes. “Back Porch” has no place here, especially since it was already featured on his EP. And I can’t help but feel that “Sounds of Summer” was tacked on as a compromise between Bentley and Capitol Nashville after “Bourbon In Kentucky” was prematurely pulled from radio and “Riser” was consequentially delayed…………and Bentley agreed to cut that obligatory radio song in exchange for allowing the rest of “Riser” to see the light of day of release.

Despite those two weaker moments, however, “Riser” is an absolutely heartfelt and emotionally committed and focused album on the part of Dierks Bentley, and earns a solid recommendation from me.

I especially want to single out “Say You Will” and “Here On Earth” as outstanding cuts that rate among Bentley’s best he has offered throughout his already impressive recording career.

This deserves four stars out of five from me. Well done, Dierks!

  3. Count me among those who consider the entire Up on the Ridge album his finest work to date, but if I’m picking a single favorite song, it’s gotta be “Lot of Leaving Left to Do”. There’s a decidedly “Waylon” vibe to that recording that I love.

We’ve had to sit through countless songs the last decade that name-checked various country greats, but that show little indication that those dropping those names were actually influenced in any meaningful way by them. On “Lot of Leaving Left to Do”, I really felt that Dierks had gotten something from Waylon’s music.

  4. My favorite song by Dierks is “Good Things Happen” from his “Modern Day Drifter” album. The song gives me chills and Allison Kraus provides excellent harmony vocals. “Modern Day Drifter” and “Up on the Ridge” are my favorite albums by Dierks.

  5. “Settle for a Slowdown” is probably my favorite, but “Long Trip Alone,” Sweet and Wild”, and several others are close runners-up!

  6. My favorite dierks Bentley song is trying to stop your leaving. Long trip alone, settle for a slowdown, and tip it on back also favorites of mine.

  7. everytime I hear “What Was I Thinkin'” it makes me want to drive a little faster in the song. I had it set on repeat for a 2 hour roadtrip, and that was the only song I listened to. It was also the first song I ever put on my ipod.
