Single Review: Luke Bryan, “Most People are Good”

“Most People are Good”
Luke Bryan

Written by David Frasier, Ed Hill, and Josh Kear

“Most People are Good” would deserve props based on its pleasant melody and its no frills production alone. There are no drum machine loops, no arena rock guitars and no processed vocals to be heard! It’s nice to hear Luke Bryan tap into the sound of his early career again, even if only for just a few minutes.

Fortunately, thanks to its thoughtful content, the song is good even beyond the melody and production. As songs with a list of “I believe” statements tend to be, “Most People are Good” is admittedly simplistic, but it sincerely hits ideas that should unite us, but are easy to forget in these emotionally tumultuous times.

Simple sentiments such as, “I believe you love who you love. Ain’t nothin’ you should ever be ashamed of,” “I believe this world ain’t half as bad as it looks, “I believe most people are good,” and “I believe if you just go by the nightly news, your faith in all mankind would be the first thing you lose,” are unifying reminders which are sorely needed right now.

Moreover, the fact that this song is not just a nice little unreleased song tucked away on a 15-track album, but rather one chosen to be a radio single from a mainstream hitmaker is impressive and deserves props in and of itself.

Grade: A

  1. Bryan has a genuine charm when he’s not caught up in his bro act (which isn’t too often, sadly). I think the Don Williams comparison is apt. This is a good one.

  2. Good song. I’ll add it to my sappy song playlist and I mean that in a good way. I’m old – only a few months younger than Dolly – so I can relate to the bridge:

“I believe that days go slow and years go fast
And every breath’s a gift, the first one to the last”

Sad to hear that Lari White is battling cancer.

  3. Obviously never been to the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints (Mormon Church) or a Catholic/Lutheran Church. Most people are not good. I been praying for a Mormon girl to marry and have a family with for over three years now and still nothing. Find a community that will help you make your dreams come true.
