Eagles, “Busy Being Fabulous”

One of the great success stories of 2007 was the massively popular Eagles album Long Road Out of Eden.    In the seventeen years since their previous studio album, country music essentially adopted their California rock sound.    In a weird way, listening to “Busy Being Fabulous” made me think to myself, “Oh. This is what Rascal Flatts is trying to do, but they keep messing it up.”

It’s hard to mess anything up when you have Don Henley singing lead, with Eagles harmonies behind him.  The song is clever, but still understated, and it’s over far too soon.  If they sold this CD somewhere other than Wal-Mart, I’d probably buy it.

  1. I don’t have a Wal-Mart near me, being in one of the few cities that doesn’t have them nationwide. Ideally, I’d be able to download the CD from iTunes, which is my preferred way of purchasing music, but I just might use your link, especially if this song is still stuck in my head tomorrow. Thanks!

  2. this is a really catchy tune. it’s different than other stuff that is being played on the radio, but hopefully it will become a hit.

  3. I would be very wary about comparing the Eagles to ANY of the country groups out there today. The times are redically different from when this band was at the top of the pile in the 1970s, and their themes dwelled on the dark side of fame and fortune, which aren’t exactly the stock-in-trade of, say, Rascal Flatts. The Eagles were then, and in many ways still are, a very jaded band.
