Nashville Scene Critics Poll

Weekly indie paper Nashville Scene has announced the results of its annual country music critics poll. Unsurprisingly, Loretta Lynn has topped nearly every list. I was surprised to see how many of my favorite albums and singles of the year matched the critic picks; the Best Albums looks like my 2004 shopping list. As for the singles, good choices, but let’s try to get the titles right, people: Gary Allan hit with “Songs About Rain,” not “Songs About The Rain“; Lee Ann Womack sang “I May Hate Myself In The Morning”, not “I’m Going To Hate Myself”; and, most amusingly, The Notorious Cherry Bombs’ song takes on a whole new meaning when retitled “It’s Hard To Kiss The Lips That Have Been Chewing Your Ass All Day.” Mentos, anyone?
