Rodney Atkins, “Cleaning This Gun (Come On In Boy)

Ha! After listening to the tepid suburban fairytale “Stealing Cinderella”, I can’t help but love this alternative scenario play out when a young man comes a-courtin’. Atkins continues to be one of the finest young talents on the country music scene, and four singles deep, his second album is still producing singles worthy of leading off a project.

  1. I agree. One of the best males in the genre today. However I think this song is JUST AS GOOD as Stealing Cinderella. Both song s show different sides. Stealing CInderella is sort of the next step to this song, switching from high school love to love for life. I love the fact that this song sweys from the slow, easy melodies of those songs though, makes it more interesting.

  2. Let’s be honest folks. The men who penned “Stealing Cinderella” and “Cleaning This Gun” have little in common. I refuse to delve into the differences between the too, as I think that unfairly puts “Cinderella” in the same catagory as Rodney’s new release. “Cleaning This Gun” is light years ahead.

I fell for this song over a year ago as an album cut, when “If You’re Goin Through Hell” was released. It’s so much fun. Catchy, and most of all, different. It’s a real Man Song. Trying so hard to be the protective, tough father, but honest enough to admit that it’s a daddy thing, and nobody’s gonna get hurt. It’s honest, heartfelt, and just plain fun. This song, to me, is what’s right with country music today. Great music, well played, strong vocals, and well delivered lyrics that stand for themselves.

Also, I have to add that, as Kevin pointed out, this is the foutrh single off this album. For those of us who have heard the rest of the tracks, if Rodney were so inclined, there are at least two more tracks that could find success if he chose them to send out as singles as well. This kid is scary good, and I wonder how he was so unnoticed for so long.

P.S. This is NOT his debut cd!!!

  3. I laughed so hard when I walked out of my room to hear my dad playing that song to my boyfriend. The look on my boyfriend’s face was priceless. This song was exactly how my dad felt and boy he did not want anyone to forget it. My boyfriend kept his has to himself for the longest time. He still hesitates to kiss me.

  4. oh my lanta. i love this song so much. Its the best song ive heard from him. no lie. my step dad thinks he is like this, but hes just retarded. i love this song. best in a while. and thats a fact.

  5. this song so ture when it comes to my daughter…she is a daddy’s girl and she is my world and she is getting so big so fast… this song can be any girls song… LOVE IT!!!!
