Big & Rich, "Loud"

Talk about your accurate titles. This is the ultimate distillation of that in-your-face element of Big &a

mp; Rich’s music. If you enjoy that element, you’ll love this record. If you’re like me, and you appreciate Big & Rich for their flashes of brilliant songwriting or cheeky humor, this one will leave you completely cold. Personally, I’d rather see them send “You Shook Me (All Night Long)” out there. It would certainly sell them a lot more records than this and country radio might actually play it.

  1. Personally, I have to disagree about You Shook Me (All Night Long). It completely fails to be interesting compared to the original version. I suppose it is true that Big & Rich did something different with the song and made it their own, but I certainly don’t think it was successful.

I’ve only heard Loud at the award show, so I haven’t heard it enough to make a comment.

  2. Well, this might not be any indication of radio success, but the song unseated “Winner at a Losing Game” on WUSN’s “New Country Challenge” after the latter song had won 23 consecutive nights. So there might be a market for the song out there on radio somewhere. I wish they would have kept support for “Raising Hell,” though.

  3. I think this is kinda a risky move for these guys. I love hearing it on the record and its a huge croud favorite at their concerts, but I don’t think its a “single”. At least not their best one. it is risky. Gretchen WIlson lost her career with tin-your-face songs like Politically Uncorrect and California Girls. Maybe they’re luck will be different. I’m very curious to see how well this one will fair.

  4. There couldn’t be a more defining song or title for Big and Rich than “Loud”. When I think of them, that’s what I think of. I think the song is great and incredible live. We’re going to be hearing it for a long time!

  5. Now that I’ve got their new album, I can finally properly review this song. Played loud, it is quite an enjoyable tune, but I don’t think it’s their best fast song. And I agree that it’s not really the type of song that should be a single. I agree with James that I wish they would release Radio or Faster Than Angels Fly.

Overall, I like it, but it’s probably not the best song for country radio.

  6. B&R put out a great debut album, but they simply haven’t followed it up with anything substantial. Perhaps John Rich is better of going solo and recording more stuff like ‘Lost In This Moment’. Its clear that country radio will play the heck out of conventional dross like that and wont take a gamble on the more edgier stuff.
