Eric Church, “His Kind of Money (My Kind of Love)”

Eric Church returns with the first single from his upcoming sophomore album, and it’s a classic country storyline.    The poor boy competing with the rich boy for a woman’s affections.    He doesn’t have much confidence that she’s gonna go for the poor man’s roses over the rich man’s gold, so to speak, but he’s pretty sure that his hook-baiting and goodnight kisses should put him over the edge.

Like with his earlier singles, Church’s combination of self-deprecation and easy charm make a good song into a great record.    The production pops, and he sings it confidently without spilling over in to cockiness.    He remains one of the genre’s most promising new artists.

  1. I heard him play this song live last August and thought it would be a future single. I have heard many of his songs for his forthcoming album entitled, Carolina, due out in August. Hope radio picks this single up and runs with it. He hasn’t had a top ten yet, despite what I thought to be all quality releases. Hopefully this one puts him over the top. He is truly one of the more underappreciated new artists and performers (although we everyone saying that, it might not be the case any longer).

  2. Eric Church is awesome! He is very under appriciated! His first album was awesome and i hope this one will be even better. Keep it up Eric! You are so talented. Not only can he sing but he writes most of his music too!!

  3. Eric Church is totally wonderful and as the previous posters have said – **VERY** under appreicated!

I am absolutely loving Eric’s new single!!! It’s alot of fun – his vocals and the music are great – love the lyrics – great groove…..

  4. Another great sing-along song that I’m sure will connect with all the young men again (Guys Like Me). I Cannot wait for the new CD coming out in August!

  5. I absolutely LOVE this song…so much so that I can’t eat or do anything else when I hear it. I HAVE to sing along!

I don’t care what anyone says (if it’s contrary to what **I** believe) Eric Church is one of the BEST songwriter/singers out there, and his band…also the BEST!

This song is simple and, while the theme of the song is not new, Eric’s sound is fresh and exciting. A definite shot in the arm of country music.

  6. Agreed with my fellow friends. Eric is under-appreciated. It means more knowing he tries his best to give you his attention when you are meeting him. He gets to know you on a personal level and with Sinners Like Me and Carolina we’re just getting to know him better. He has made some wonderful friendships from what he loves to do. Carolina is calling you home!

  7. I also have heard this song live and it is a very good song and will be a sing along in future concerts. Eric Church is a great person and singer songwritter. All it takes is to listen to his music and it real life that you can relate to and meet Eric Church just once and you have met a friend for life. His next cd will be out and I cant wait for more of his music

  8. I also agree with the wonderful people (friends) above me that Eric is a VERY under-appreciated song writer and artist! He IS an AMAZING person! When this song comes on, all I want to do is let the whole world listen. I have to sing along and just enjoy the song. August can’t come soon enough, I want the new CD in my hands right now. I Would pay big bucks for it. :-) LOVE the song!!!

  9. Coming from a guy that hasn’t hit it big yet, this song is my anthem! Eric does a great job with this song, not only singing it, but capturing the mindset of the average guy. Can’t wait for the new CD.

  10. i heard eric church play this song last monday and the song is AWESOME!!! I can’t wait until his second album comes out!!!!!!

  11. Eric Church is, without a doubt, my favorite new artist. His album is one of few that I’ve EVER heard that I can listen to all the way through. He is even better in concert, and can’t wait to see him for a second time in 2 weeks. He seems like a guys who would be a blast to hang out with at the bar or on the lake.

  12. I wasn’t a fan of his first album, but this one seems promising. I may purchase the album if there’s a god buzz around it. As of right now I’ll have to see if this single grows on me.

  13. Not a bad song, I like it a bit, But you need to review the lastest by JAMEY JOHNSON, called IN COLOR….it is one of the best true COUNTRY songs I have heard in years!!!!!!!!!!

  14. I have to agree that Eric is underrated. I actually think that he might just get himself into the Top 10 with this song, but he might need a little luck (or a lot of patience). Some artists just need one song to get them going after their first few singles are underplayed and underappreciated (see Craig Morgan with “Almost Home” or Rodney Atkins with “If You’re Going Through Hell (Before The Devil Even Knows).” Maybe, this will happen with Eric because I think the message to this song is something the normal Country Music fan can relate to.

  15. I’ll be honest, I only bought Eric’s first album because it was cheap. But, after listening to it, I have to say that it was one of the best albums I have ever heard. I’ve listened to the entire album countless times. Now, I am an Eric Church fan for life and can’t figure out why he is so unappreciated. I figured that he would be huge by now. I am impatiently waiting for the release of his next album and will be there the first day it comes out to pick it up. This song shows that he’s not changing and he will be around for a long time to come.

  16. Country radio(or at least my station) has no room for any artist except Kenny Chesney and Carrie Underwood and I am not exaggerating. I know they are hot but dang, don’t they think we want to hear something new and different once in a while. My station will play their songs as soon as they come out, but other artist has to get into the top ten before it gets played! No wonder a lot of these good artist do not get anywhere! Sorry, I had to vent! Well speak of the devil…..another Carrie Underwood song is playing as I type!!!

  17. Eric Church is by far the best songwriter in country music today. His last album is everything modern day country music should be. I can listen to that album all the way through without any temptation to skip to the next song. His new single is awesome. Hope he keeps it up and does not go soft on us.

  18. I have to agree that Eric is the most underappreciated artists today. My radio station does the same thing and plays only Kenny Chesney Carrie Underwood or Taylor swift and don’t get me wrong they are all great artists but I get tired of the same thing over and over. Eric Church is my favorite artist and I would like to hear him a little bit without having to put in his cd all the time. Anyway I love the new song and I think it will be a big hit. Keep it up Eric

    PS.
I hope you could come and play in Pennsylvania sometime

  19. Eric is one of the few true COUNTRY artists in my opinion. His cds are great but they dont do him justice. I really became a huge fan when I heard him live in an acoustic setting, thats when you really appreciate Eric Church.

  20. Why does someone who comes from the wealthiest family in the area write and sing about money and pretending to be poor? Over and over?

  21. Eric is my absolute favorite artist. I unfortunately haven’t had the chance to see him yet, but hopefully changes soon. Every other song my radio station plays is Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts. Don’t get me wrong they are all terrific artists but Eric is just one of the few artists who sings pure country music. I am suprised my copy of his CD still works, I play it all the time. I know every single song by heart. The new single is great. It is even my ringtone. I can’t wait until it gets more recognition. This song definetly has potential to become a #1 single.
