Sound Off: The McClymonts

Our occasional feature spotlighting new artists continues today, as we turn our attention to another Aussie country act:  The McClymonts.  This sister act has already gained popularity in their home country.

Here's a bit of their bio from their official website:

“The McClymont sisters Brooke, Samantha and Mollie McClymont unleashed their musical alchemy and soaring vocal perfection when they released their first self-titled EP in June 06 through Universal Music.

They toured Australia performing to full houses every night supporting multi award winner Lee Kernaghan plus music festivals across the land.

As the word spread fast the industry quickly noticed their increasing popularity. The media became involved and they were invited on popular Radio and Television shows promoting their EP and public events. They where excited to be invited by Channel 9’s high rating show ‘Getaway’ to present their hometown of Grafton (NSW) to the Nation.

Another honor was being invited to perform ‘Delta Dawn’, a tribute to Helen Reddy at the Aria Hall of Fame awards 2006.

Also, they spent Christmas 2006 and New Years Eve away from their

family and friends to perform 15 shows over 2 weeks in Iraq.

Their hard work paid off when they proudly accepted 2 awards at this years’ 35th CMAA Country Music Awards of Australia held at Tamworth in January 07. The McClymonts received Golden Guitars for Group or Duo of the Year and Maton New Talent of the Year with their smash hit single Something That My Heart Does.

Recently, they became the faces for the Jamm 4 Jeans campaign. This event as part of the Jeans 4 Genes charity runs on the weekend of August 3-5 and through live music events raises money for Childrens’ Medical Research.

They are currently touring and preparing for the release their debut album Chaos and Bright Lights.

  1. I think they will need to work on the lyrics. While the lead isn’t super distinct, she does have a hint of huskiness that I like. I liked the download song better than the first song that came up on their myspace, but I noticed more to her voice on the myspace song.

  2. I’ve been following the McClymont Sisters for a couple of years now. “Favourite Boyfriend” was a good choice as I consider it the catchiest song on “Chaos & Bright Lights”. All three of the sisters take turns doing the lead vocals and will often swap leads during a song. Their voices are similar enough that its hard to tell them apart. Brooke (the shorter brunette) is the oldest and tried a solo pop career first that didn’t get very far. Samantha (the lone blonde) started off with a solo country CD single “Cooking In My Kitchen” that did well. When the youngest sister Mollie (the tall brunette) graduated high school they decided to give it a go as a sister trio and are now one of the hottest acts on the Aussie country music scene.

The song featured here is from their latest album which was recorded and produced in Nashville by Swedish wunderkind Adam Anders. My only complaints about the album are that the songwriting could be stronger and the production is a little too slick for my tastes. Overall the music is just fun pop country that doesn’t aspire to be anything more than a sonic good time and heavens do Aussies love a good time….

Suggestion: Next try Kirsty Lee Akers singing the Little Jimmy Dicken’s hit “I’m Little But I’m Loud” or her one pop effort “I’m Going To The Beach” which has a video available on YouTube. These songs are off her debut “Little Things” CD and YouTube has the video for that song as well.

  3. I saw Kirsty Lee Akers up at Tamworth when she won Starmaker, personally I thought there were a lot better than her on the night and we were all surprised to see her win. Also her spiteful comments about fellow country musician Travis Collins didn’t help sway my opinion about her.

But why are we even talking about her when The McClymonts are the topic of the day. They are a talented group of girls, they put on a great concert, the blokes all love them and best of all, they’re just lovely. They take the time after shows to have photos with fans and sign autographs, and just have a nice chat. They’re true country kids and the town of Grafton must be so proud!

  4. The McClymonts will be doing a radio tour of the U.S. later this month in support of their cd Chaos and Bright Lights, and I presume the song “My Life Again”. So it looks like they are looking for some U.S. airplay. I love The McClymonts!
