Single Review: LeAnn Rimes, “Give”

God Bless LeAnn Rimes.

She already put her own spin on the serenity prayer with her underrated gem “What I Cannot Change.”  Now she’s giving Gandhi a run for his money.

“Be the change you want to see in the world.”  It’s really that simple.

I really like her philosophical side.  For all the media tries to portray her as a caricature, she’s got the goods.  “Give” is just the latest in a long string of very good singles.

Can we get a new album now?

Grade: B+

Listen: Give

  1. It doesn’t have nearly the same impact of “What I Cannot Change,” but it’s still a great song. I know she’s trying to branch out sonically, but this would fit in well on an album similar to This Woman.

  2. Ho Hum, boring, no original ideas, just parroting other peoples quotes. Melody is boring, yet another no-hitter for Rimes. No wonder her last 2 albums were shelved. She should let her label select other song writer’s music for her to sing and give up trying to write and select her own music.

  3. Seems like there are so many seasoned artists who are no longer as good as they once was, but LeAnn is one artist who just seems to keep getting better and better.

Was the review’s last sentence directed at Mike Curb, by any chance?

  4. Hate this chorus melody, but I do like her philosophical side.

I would love if she could just get on a better label (like Martina with Republic) and start kicking ass. She’s been quietly releasing better music than almost every other mainstream act in the game for a while now.

  5. Ah like it like it like it! Ya know Curb’s really a crappy label now ain’t it? Couldn’t get awesome talents like Amy Dalley off the ground they killed Jo Dee’s career, and now they’re trying to do the same to both LeAnn and Tim it seems… Anyway she has been releasing better music than the rest for a long time in quality her only rival is Miranda…

  6. I like this one well enough, but I don’t think it has the knockout punch that she needs to get her back on the radio again. Like Dan, I’d love to hear her with a less calculated label behind her. I wonder how long she’s tied to Curb?
