Review: Craig Morgan, “Tough”

Craig Morgan, “Tough”

This is one of the most beautiful tributes to a wife and mother that I have ever heard. Every line sounds like real life. There are no forced story lines here, no transparent attempts at sentimentality. Every word feels true to me.

The verse about the wife getting cancer but still being the strong one, as the husband breaks down and cries? Heartbreakingly candid. Maybe it’s a result of being raised in an extended family full of strong matriarchs, but I can never quite buy into the female archetypes in recent songs like “She’s Everything” or “Daisy”. The women in my family are tough. Morgan might as well be singing about any one of them.

  1. This song is amazing. I cry everytime I hear it. He was in my hometown the other night and to see him perform that song is incredible. You can tell he means it from the heart, and it takes alot for a man to say a woman is stronget than he is. I love this song so much!

  2. This is a great song i cry when i listen to it my aunnt has cancer and has now for to years and this song describes her. 3. This song is about my wife’s mom. She was a wounderful woman and I have heard so much about her from family and friends. This is a wounderful song. I know my wife will love this song.

  4. At first I thought the tune of this song was a little dull. But the lyrics were some of my favorites. They are simple, but effective. But one day while listening to this song really loud, the pure emotion of this song really got to me. Ever since, I’ve cried almost every time I’ve heard this song. It is amazing.

    Grade A+
